About us
Newark Castle and Gardens is one of the town’s most iconic historic landmarks, set on the banks of the River Trent and steeped in 900 years of history. The striking medieval ruins, once a Royalist stronghold during the Civil Wars and the place where King John died, create a dramatic backdrop to its Victorian gardens.
Ongoing restoration works as part of the Castle Gatehouse Project mean that access to the full site is currently unavailable, with only a small section of the grounds open. Visitors can find the latest details and updates about the project on the Newark Castle and Gardens website: newarkcastleandgardens.co.uk/gatehouse-project
Once complete, the project will transform the site, with Newark Castle and Gardens set to reopen as an enhanced and interactive heritage attraction.
