Explore the remarkable life of Irena Sendler, the Polish humanitarian who helped rescue Jewish children during the Holocaust.
This travelling exhibition, created by the Institute of National Remembrance (IPN), tells the story of Irena Sendler (1910-2008), a social worker, nurse and member of the Polish resistance who devoted herself to helping others. Through a series of illustrated panels, visitors can follow her life from childhood through to her wartime work rescuing Jewish children from the Warsaw Ghetto and placing them in safe homes, orphanages and convents.
Honoured as one of the Righteous Among the Nations, Sendler became a symbol of humanitarian courage, tolerance and selflessness. The exhibition highlights her work with Żegota, the Polish Council to Aid Jews, and her lifelong commitment to encouraging young people to respect and care for others.
Featuring photographs and archival materials from leading Polish museums, archives and cultural institutions, the exhibition offers an inspiring insight into a woman whose actions helped save more than 2,500 children and whose legacy continues to resonate today.
